So I’ve recently gotten into the project of creating my own home media server. Streaming services have gotten crappier and crappier over the 2010s, and in the 2020s, they’re plain terrible.
Crappy UI, terrible search functions, movies no one is interested in, and a bunch of shows that get cancelled before they reach a satisfying conclusion. And as a cherry on top: continually rising prices!
It got to the point where 9/10 movies I wanted to watch were not available on the 4 streaming services I paid for, leaving me renting most movies if I wanted to watch them at all.
Enough is enough, I said to myself! I’ll be ripping DVDs and keeping the files for myself! Buy once, cry once – I say!
Eventually I had ammassed quite a collection, and noticed a feature in the player I was using that allows you to define any number of custom pre-roll videos to play before a movie. I had to make my own!
Now often when I screen movies for my buddies, some drinkage and smokage occurs. I don’t need to tell you that these creature comforts are famous for making even God’s strongest movie watcher sleepy. Thus, the name of my fake production company had arrived – Sleepy Cinema.
I grabbed an old video I took of a bunch of my friends snoozing after watching a movie, then rotoscoped their visages, and orchestrated them in a star pattern, threw up some text, and called it macaroni.
